The Luv Fit Jewelry® line features primarily pewter charms, all of which are manufactured in the USA. We do carry the occasional zinc or resin charm, but when it comes to our metal charms, pewter makes up about 98% of our line.

First of all, what is pewter? Pewter is an alloy metal made primarily of tin with a small amount of copper. Unlike sterling, it does not tarnish. It is even considered to be a precious metal and gained its popularity in the Middle Ages. It is the fourth most used metal in jewelry.

We had a few choices when it came to metals, two of the main contenders being sterling silver and pewter. For starters, we really wanted all our charms to be manufactured in the USA, but still remain affordable. Sometimes these two factors don't mix well, hence why you see so many products made in China these days.

As it turns out, pewter is not only lead-free and nickel-free, but is considered a hypoallergenic metal and thus, one of the best options for those with metal allergies. We wanted to make sure everyone could wear our jewelry without any issues, including customers who are allergic to sterling silver.

Note: We use "modern" pewter, not to be confused with antique pewter, which was once made with lead. Pewter charms can also be worn while working out, which is a nice perk considering you'll likely be wearing our pieces while sweating your butt off at the gym!

They can also be worn in the shower and will not tarnish like sterling can. If anything, they may need to be polished from time to time, but a regular, dry polishing cloth works just fine for this. Cleaning is also recommended if you're doing a lot of sweating with them on, but it may not be 100% necessary.

How to clean your pewter charms: Mix 1/2 cup of baking soda with 1 cup of boiled water. Place charms in mixture. If you need to scrub the charms, gently use the SOFT side of the sponge. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly. If done this way, antiquing should not come off.

As a final note, this doesn't mean we will never carry sterling silver jewelry. In fact, we've had exclusive charms in the past that were sterling. We just want to make sure that we can still offer you the same variety, affordability, and durability as we've been able to accomplish with our pewter charms. :)

Anyways, we hope you enjoy our jewelry! And should you run into any issues with anything, please don't hesitate to contact us! We definitely want to make sure you're satisfied with your purchase!
